CSB Suppliers Take Home Medals at International Beer Awards

Last month was the Mountain Brewer’s Fest at the Sandy Downs Fairground in Idaho Falls. The festival is an event that concludes an entire week completely dedicated to beer. Yet it isn’t just Idaho Falls that celebrates beer the last week of May; this week is considered “Idaho Beer Week,” and thousands of Idahoans participate. Every year before the festival there’s a competition in which the beers submitted are judged on their quality and the best of the best are awarded gold, silver, and bronze medals. This competition used to be known as the “North American Brewers Awards,” but this year changed its name to the “International Beer Awards Excellence in Brewing N.A.B.A” to accommodate the almost 2,000 entries from all over the globe. Thanks to this competition I’ve had some of the best brews available, from Vienna-style lagers and California Commons, to Foreign Extra Stouts and Munich Dark Ales.

I’ve had the privilege of judging at this competition for the past three years and it is a week I always look forward to; both for the opportunity to judge some amazing beverages and because I get to go out and support our supplier reps at the events that go on each night. Our Eastern Idaho team are absolute rock stars for the work they put into making this week full of fun times and great beers. This year the Oregon night at Tap-N-Fill with Pelican, Sun River, and Breakside was a particularly great night.

What makes me happiest to be a judge in this competition is watching our brands take home medals. Payette Brewing’s Fly Line brought home a silver, and their Aura sour took a bronze. I’ve seen Pelican Brewing’s Kiwanda Cream Ale win a medal every year that I’ve been at this competition (including the year I wasn’t a judge but crashed the medal ceremony anyway). Wallace Brewing earned a silver medal for their Strong Ale. MillerCoors received medals as well. Coors Light and Miller High Life took gold medals, Coors Banquet a silver, and Blue Moon Summer Honey Wheat a Bronze in the Honey Beer category. This shows that our company chooses to represent brands that make some of the highest quality products, and I for one am very proud of that fact.
